In 2018 the rose garden and a very rare Welsh apple orchard were replanted. The rose garden was designed by Sarah Price of Olympic Gardens, London and Chelsea Flower Show gold medal brilliance.
This was a challenging project as in Spring 2018, 40 tons of old top soil had to be removed and 40 tons of new soil replaced in the beds - hard work by wheelbarrow in between several heavy falls of snow. The result has been a delight not just for the family but many visitors both human and insect. The abundant summer sun, flowers and foliage have been a magnet for bees and butterflies. This winter the original small greenhouse will be restored and a nuttery, figgery, quincetum and mulberryetum planted in the walled garden. Plans are also underway in 2019 for a new fernery and bastion walk in the woodland below the formal gardens.
